What is quality and Which 4 factors contribute to quality of care?
Health services are considered to be a provider of best quality of care if they increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with evidence-based professional knowledge. As a result of this definition, best quality of care encompasses prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and palliation, and implies that quality can be measured and continuously improved by providing evidence-based care that takes into account the needs and preferences of patients, families and communities.
What are the characteristics of best quality of care?
Over the past few decades, several quality elements have been described. There is now clear consensus that best quality of care in health services should be:
- Effective by providing evidence-based health care;
- Safe means avoiding harm to the people receiving the care;
- People-centered care means providing care tailored to individual preferences, needs, and values, within health services arranged to meet those needs;
- Reducing waiting times and sometimes harmful delays for both recipients and providers;
- Provide the same quality of care regardless of age, sex, gender, race, ethnicity, geographic location, religion, socioeconomic status, linguistic or political affiliation;
- Integrating care by coordinating it across levels and providers and making sure all health services are available throughout a person’s life cycle; and
- Maximizing the use of available resources and reducing waste is the key to being efficient.
There is a close connection between many of the above domains of quality and ethical principles. There are some recommended rules for achieving this dream.
What is high-quality patient care?
In one of my Gynecology and cosmetic gynecology educational training courses I heard about a code and immediately I loved the code. I heard an abbreviation that sticked to my mind forever because I loved this abbreviation, it summarize all the core values that strive for as a surgeon and I recommend every surgeon to follow to deliver the best care.
Act as A Professional. “ACTAPRO” is the code that I learnt from one of my greatest professors in anatomy.
I added another A and made it an “A+” for “Accessible” before and after surgeries, being “Affordable” without compromising the quality of the care and devices used for the best patients safety.
So my code of practice has become ACTAPRO A+.
Act as a professional at A+ level.
I liked this abbreviation for best quality of care because its easy to remember and I have made it my core code when it comes to dealing with my patients and delivering the best quality of care along the years of practice .Years of experince has enabled me to listen carefuly.Most of the medical errors happens because physicians are not listening carefully. If we listen carefully, ususally patient says the diagnosis by aproper detailed history.
The other part in asking questions and listening carefuly to answers.Do not miss even one word of your patients.
Anatomy: learning the advanced anatomy first.
Clinical indication: accurate patient assessment before surgery and discussing plans with her to support her for a correct decision. Always be honest with your patients.
Technique: safe procedures and advanced uptodate skills
Art: behave like an Artist in operation theatre. Be patient with time and procedure .
Product: always use high quality and safe devices and drugs in best amount .
Respect: Normal and natural results ,respect patient’s tissue.
Observation: proper post operative procedure care and follow up
A+: always Accessible to the patients,before or after surgeries and be Affordable without affecting the quality of the products and patient safety.
Surgery and medical practice is a combination of art and accurate scientific knowledge and I am always keen to keep up- to- date and deliver the best care for my patients.
