Overview – What is Laser Therapy?

Laser Therapy in UAE

Childbirth can have a significant impact on the body, with one area that often goes unaddressed being changes to the vagina. After giving birth, the vagina can become stretched and dry, and it does not always return to its original state. These changes can often lead to decreased feelings of friction and sexual satisfaction for both the patient and their partner. Women who have had multiple vaginal deliveries may experience an exacerbation of these symptoms, with many reporting a decrease in sensation and sexual satisfaction during intercourse. Fortunately, there are various modalities of treatment available, including laser therapy, to help alleviate these symptoms.

Laser Therapy after Childbirth

Vaginal Tightening with Laser Therapy

Many women who have given birth, undergone menopause, or experienced weight loss suffer from loosening pelvic muscles and decreased vaginal tissue consistency. To begin the treatment, Dr. Mozhgan will perform a pelvic test and insert a fractional CO2 laser approximately four to six centimeters into the vagina. Once activated, the laser beam penetrates approximately 0.5 millimeters into the vaginal wall, deep enough to reach the level of the skin where collagen is formed.

This treatment tightens the vaginal walls, enhancing sexual pleasure, restoring tissue tone, increasing blood flow, which in turn increases lubrication, and strengthens the supporting ligaments surrounding the bladder and urethra to reduce symptoms of stress urinary incontinence.

What to Expect During the Procedure?

Patients receive three treatments spaced four to six weeks apart. Each treatment procedure only takes three to seven minutes and does not require anesthesia.

During the procedure, the doctor inserts a vaginal probe that directs carbon dioxide laser energy to stimulate collagen and elastin. This laser technology is already widely used by dermatologists to treat skin conditions and can restore vaginal tissue and increase hydration. Side effects are minimal and may include temporary burning and discomfort caused by probe insertion. These symptoms typically resolve within a few days of the procedure if they occur.

Lightening Treatment with Laser Therapy

Laser therapy can also be effective in addressing dark pigmentation of the genital area. Many people are concerned about the dark pigmentation of their intimate area, which multiple factors, such as heredity, bacterial infections, aging, post-childbirth, or hormonal changes, can cause skin pigmentation.

What to Expect During the Procedure?

Laser vaginal lightening treatment sessions usually last between 10 and 20 minutes, and patients may report a local warming sensation without requiring the use of anesthetics. Regular activities can be resumed soon after treatment. The high concentration of melanin below the epidermis in the genital area can cause dark-colored skin, which is targeted by the laser. Patients can expect to see results up to two weeks after the sessions.

Q1. Is laser therapy for vaginal tightening painful?

Laser therapy for vaginal tightening is generally well-tolerated, and most individuals report minimal discomfort during the procedure. Some may experience a mild heating or tingling sensation in the treated area, but this can be managed with numbing cream or cooling techniques if needed.

Q2. Are there any side effects or risks associated with laser therapy for vaginal tightening or skin pigmentation?

While laser therapy for vaginal tightening and skin pigmentation is generally safe, some potential side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, mild discomfort, or changes in pigmentation. These effects are usually temporary and subside within a few days or weeks. It is important to consult with a qualified healthcare professional who can assess your specific situation and provide appropriate guidance.
